Surfing The Tsunami Chp 3
In this chapter it is discussed that AI should be taken seriously. Dr. Kelsey invites us to come to our own perspectives and realizations about AI given the large quantity of evidence. When addressing the questions he asks in this chapter, I do consider myself an optimist about AI and that it has a more rapid impact on technology. Many upscale technologies are performing things more effectively and digitally. There is clearly enough evidence that suggests that AI is extremely beneficial to performing business tasks and for human pleasure as well. My only worry in this matter is that AI is going to reduce human capital and assets to a great degree or even make humans lazy as we have robots completing every day tasks for us when they become so advanced. However, I would ask if you are reading to tell me your thoughts regarding self driving cars if they will make humans lazy or if it will be super beneficial in the sense they could drastically reduce car accidents if they are programmed perfectly.
On the flip side I could also fail to realize that AI could also introduce jobs as opposed to taking them. For example, when new machines or chips are being made that could open a lot of positions for people to work at companies that make the parts for new AI inventions. However, for people who are not engineers and specify their skills and work in business could be hurtful considering machines are being made to do work for companies. Then again, this could could force labor unions to adapt and find new skills that could properly suit them given the change in economy.
