Ascend Your Start-Up Chp 2
In Chapter two Helen Yu talks about all of the things along her journey up Mount Everest that are impossible to anticipate. Many of the things you can face before you even begin your journey to prepare for what inevitable. Ideally Yu compares this to the process of starting your business and the challenges that come a long the way. Even though you cant predict everything, if you go into it with the best preparation and can fight off obstacles easier. During her hike, making sure the condition of her gear was safe, her health and knowing the possibilities of the weather were the things Yu took into account to make sure she could attack this journey in the best way possible.
Additionally many themes are introduced in her story as she is describing her trip up. For Example as Helen and her team are getting higher in elevation she believes she is going to break down immediately while her friends are not phased by this. We look at this in business perspective that when you are faced with a challenge and are close to failing, you take a look around you and see who is succeeding in that moment and try to feed off of that success. Even though there is no actual competition between Helen and her friends, she can look at that as a note of encouragement and see where her weaknesses are. During your start up if you are faced with a dilemma that other people are doing just fine with, you need to take their approach into account.
Helen states "The desire to abandon the climb happens with all of us from time to time", when things get tough like transitioning your idea to product, investors are not calling you back, and no money is coming in. People want to be a perfectionist but the most crucial idea is to not be flawless but creating a perfect minimally viable product (MVP). (Yu, H & Rainer 2021)
